Freakazoid, The Movie

Hello, how are you doing? I hope that things are going great.

My name is Eduardo Diaz. I am a young mexican teenage student who only a few months ago wrote
and directed his first film ever in his beautiful hometown (Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chiapas, Mexico).

Freakazoid The Movie was made as a 10th grade English class project. The assignment consisted in grouping together into different teams with the purpose of completely producing a film on our own in which we would practice our English and experiment with filmaking as an art form (sort of, can our movie really be considered art?).

The first thing we had to come up with was the idea for the script, which actually took us a good time to decide. But we finally came to the conclusion that we wanted to base it on our favorite cartoon character, Freakazoid, and so decided to take a step ahead and produce the first live action film ever about him. So, with the ideas in place and everything ready, filming started on November 15th, 1996.

Due to the production's informality, no one assumed a leadership role and so I decided to just take charge by establishing myself as the director and script writer. The script was not written and then filmed in the traditional way, every time we would get together to film we'd develop each part of the story according to our mood and perspective on that occasion, which made the entire project something that reflected our attitude at the time of filming.

I have to admit that the hardest thing to do was direct Raul (Dexter) and Luis (Freakazoid) because sometimes they would just not pay attention to what I told them to do, but even though I have to admit that they were great and really gave the film it's character.

We confronted many problems with the production, being the main one that the only camera we had available was damaged and incapable to record sound, so because our budget and contacts didn't permit us to obtain some other filming device, we had to shoot the entire movie and then dub it, but I must say that the quality of the sound even turned out better in this way than it could have with a fully functioning camera.

So, after weeks of hard work it finally premiered for our high school on December 11, 1996 to an audience of 62 people. Many were amazed by the special effects and really congratulated us for the hard work that made a film they actually enjoyed.

That's it, a brief description of the who, when and where of Freakazoid The Movie. Please continue surfing through these pages to learn even more about this amazing production, including images and sounds from the film. Enjoy¡
